Last Saturday, 9th July, the Finals of the 2016 Zone State (Open), President’s Reserve & Senior Singles Championships were conducted and decided.
The Zone congratulates the following players on their achievements: State (Open) Championship – Kevin Robinson of Tuncurry Beach BC; President’s Reserve Championship – Brad Tonkiss of Tuncurry Beach BC; Senior Championship – Noel James of Tuncurry Beach BC.
The results may seem lop sided as to what Club the winners and also two of the runners up are members; however, it should be remembered that the Club has the greater number of contestants in the Championships than other Zone Clubs; that a majority of these players’ always enter the Championships; that by entering and competing at a higher level only improves their games, resulting in their successes.
The Zone wishes the Champions the very best of luck in the State Finals in October at Ettalong Memorial BC. Previous Zone Championships winners have been advised in earlier posts and need not be repeated. The final Zone Championships for the season – Champion of Club Champions – will be played in August & September.
Now to the Pennants and the final of the Northern Conference Combined Sections 5 & 6 No. 1 Grade was played at Taree Leagues BC on Sunday, 10th July, between Tuncurry Beach BC and Westport BC. It is pleasing to report that after a close game, Tuncurry Beach BC overcame a determined effort from Westport to win one of the three spots available to the Northern Conference, to compete at the State Pennant Finals.
The Zone wishes them every success in their games in the State Finals.
