Congratulations to our representatives for their excellent performances in these two events.
Pairs - Kevin Robinson and Matt Sargeant (Tuncurry Beach) had wins over Westport (18/13) and Austral (26/8) before succumbing to the strong Cabramatta pair of Ben Morethorpe and Aaron Wilson in the final 10/24.
Singles - Kevin Robinson (Tuncurry Beach) made his way to the semi-final with wins over Umina (31/14) and Harbord (31/18), but could progress no further after being defeated by Michael Cronin (East Cessnock) 11/31.
These were two very strong showings in class fields and are to be commended.

Jake Reid of Pacific Palms BC, the elder statesman of our small Zone squad, repaid
his selection in the NSW CHS Side to play in the Australian Schools Super Series at
Darebin BC in Victoria recently.
This was the first time that this Fixture has been played and Jake was in the NSW
Green team which won the series overall. He skipped the Pairs and Fours teams and
came away with gold for overall, gold for the Fours and Silver for the Pairs.
This was a tremendous effort on his and his team’s part and was illustrative of his
ability which has developed over some years. I am sure that the State Selectors will
have taken heed of his results.
Next month, the annual Cities versus Country Series will be played at Cabramatta
BC, albeit under a new format. This year, the Selectors have picked 20 boys and 20
girls to play in four teams of ten over three “tests”. The Selectors may vary the
teams’ compositions and positions to observe the players’ ability to handle change.
I am pleased to advise that, this year, our Zone has three representatives – Jake
Reid & Malachy McTaggart (Pacific Palms) and Eva Williams (Forster).
This is a huge step for Eva and I am sure she will repay the Selectors faith in
selecting her. Eva has shown tremendous potential from day one and will surprise
many bowlers’ during the coming years.
At the just completed State Championships our bowlers have come away with some mixed results.
The best effort was by Wayne Wright and Kevin Robinson (Tuncurry Beach) who were runners-up in the State Senior Pairs. After wins of 27-8 (Wagga Rules), 19-9 (Harbord) and 19-9 (Narooma), they were defeated 9-20 in the final by Engadine.
Another good result was in the fours where Lewis Williams, Rex Johnston, Steve Harris and Kevin Robinson (Tuncurry Beach) were defeated in the semi-final. After wins of 18-16 (Terrigal) and 25-21 (Penrith) they were defeated 23-26 by Belrose.
Other results were :
Singles - Steve Harris (Open) and Rex Johnston (Senior) were defeated in the quarters.
Open Pairs - Brett English and Jason Aurisch (Blackhead), defeated first round
Triples - Peter Woolley, Warren Cocksedge and Bill Brett (Leagues), defeated first round
Presidents Reserve - Singles - Jarrod Small (Tuncurry Beach) and Pairs - Mick Stanbury and Wayne O'Neill (Lanswdowne) were all defeated in the quarters.
